Superintendent Message

Our district-wide desire is to continue to create an environment in which students and parents feel welcome when they walk into our facilities.  In this day and age with constant safety concerns, we must still maintain an atmosphere that creates an excitement to be a part of BISD.

We have implemented new programs this year to assist students in reaching their academic goals.  Here are a few of those programs:

  • The high school and junior high have restructured their master schedules to provide continuity between the two campuses.  BHS and BJHS share the same schedule for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th and 8th periods.
  • The high school has maintained the tutorial period created last year, but has moved it from after school to before lunch.
  • All three campuses have slightly extended the school day in order to provide more instruction to the students.  The elementary has extended the school day by 15 minutes per day, which creates 43.75 more hours of instruction per year.  The junior high and high school have extended the school day by 18 minutes per day, which creates 52.5 more hours of instruction per year.  What a difference a few minutes each day makes!
  • The high school is placing additional emphasis on Career and Technology programs and offerings.  New this year to BHS is our Health Sciences strand of classes.  We are excited about this area at BHS!
  • District-wide, BISD continues to place an emphasis on the coordination of curriculum Kindergarten through 12th grade in the subjects of math and writing.  This coordination began in the summer of 2014 with K-12 meetings and will continue throughout this school year.

As you can tell, we are truly excited about the 2014-2015 school year. It is an honor to serve as interim superintendent of this outstanding school.  As always, I encourage you to volunteer and become involved in the education of our students at Ballinger ISD.
